The Taliban’s Supreme Court has announced in separate statements that one woman and six men were flogged in two provinces on various charges in public.
The court said this afternoon (Monday, March 30) that one woman and two men were flogged in Shirin Tagab district of Faryab province on charges of having “illicit relations.”
According to the statement, each of them had been sentenced to one year in prison and 31 lashes, and the flogging was carried out today.
In another statement, the Taliban’s Supreme Court said that four people in Daikundi province were flogged in public on charges of breaking their fast and transporting alcohol.
The court added that the accused had been sentenced to between two months and two years in prison, along with 20 to 39 lashes, and their flogging sentences were carried out today.
Since returning to power, the Taliban have resumed corporal punishment. Over the past nearly five years, many citizens, including women, have been flogged in public in different provinces.
