The Taliban’s Supreme Court said in separate statements that two women and four men were flogged in Samangan and Balkh on different charges.
The court said in a statement released this afternoon (Tuesday, March 31) that two women and two men in Samangan were flogged in public on charges of running away from home.
According to the statement, each of the accused had been sentenced to 39 lashes, and the punishment was carried out today.
In another statement, the Taliban’s Supreme Court said that two people in Balkh were flogged in public on charges of committing sodomy.
The statement said the accused had each been sentenced to two years in prison and 30 to 39 lashes, and the flogging was carried out today.
Yesterday, the Taliban also flogged one woman and six men in two provinces.
Since returning to power, the Taliban have resumed corporal punishment, and over the past nearly five years, many citizens, including women, have been flogged in public.
