The Taliban’s Supreme Court said in separate statements that 25 people were flogged in public in three provinces on various charges.
In a statement released this afternoon (Wednesday, April 1), the court said that 17 people were flogged in public on charges of “illicit relationships,” theft, and beating a father.
The statement added that the accused had been sentenced to between five months and eight years in prison, along with 15 to 39 lashes.
In another statement, the Taliban’s Supreme Court said that six people were flogged in Shirzad district of Nangarhar on charges of “breaking the fast.”
According to the statement, each of them had been sentenced to two months in prison and 20 lashes.
In a separate statement, the court also said that two people were flogged in Janikhel district of Paktika for having illicit relationships.
They had each been sentenced to two years in prison and 35 lashes, and their flogging sentences were carried out today.
Earlier, the Taliban’s Supreme Court had also reported the flogging of one woman and four men in Farah. With these cases, the total number of people flogged today reaches 30.
