Azizur Rahman Muhajir, head of the Taliban’s Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice in Herat, has stressed the importance of women observing hijab, saying that women should not wear tight clothing.
Radio Salam Watandar reported today (Thursday, April 2), quoting Muhajir, that wearing tight clothing is against Islamic hijab and should be avoided.
Muhajir also said that women can wear a chador, burqa, or any clothing that meets the requirements of Islamic hijab and does not attract attention.
In recent months, the Taliban in Herat have increased restrictions on women. In some cases, their vice and virtue forces have removed women from vehicles in different parts of the city and insulted and humiliated them for not following the group’s preferred dress code.
