The Taliban’s Supreme Court has announced that a woman in Kabul was flogged on charges of having an “illicit relationship.”
In a statement released today (Saturday, April 4), the court said the accused had been sentenced to one year and three months in prison, along with 25 lashes.
The statement added that the flogging sentence was carried out four days earlier in public, after being approved by the Taliban’s Supreme Court.
Since returning to power, the Taliban have resumed the implementation of corporal punishments against those accused of various offenses. Over the past nearly five years, many citizens, including women, have been publicly flogged in different provinces.
