The newspaper Hasht-e Subh has reported that the Taliban’s Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice officials have threatened doctors at Herat’s maternity hospital for providing birth control pills and condoms to women.
The outlet wrote today (Saturday, April 4) that the Taliban morality officers raided the maternity hospital in Herat and shut down sections related to services for mothers and children.
According to the report, the Taliban warned doctors that if they continue providing birth control pills and condoms to women, they will face more serious consequences.
The report also said that some female doctors were questioned for not wearing the Taliban’s required form of hijab.
It added that the Taliban also forced patients to wear the group’s prescribed hijab.
There have previously been reports of the Taliban banning the distribution of birth control pills.
