Nasir Ahmad Faiq, Acting Head of Afghanistan’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations, has described the shooting of civilians in Injil district of Herat as a terrorist attack and condemned it.
Faiq wrote today (Saturday, April 11) on X that those responsible for the shooting of civilians in Herat, in which women and children were also killed, must be identified and held accountable.
The attack on Shia civilians in Herat indicates that Afghanistan is still not safe, and that extremist groups remain capable of carrying out targeted and organized attacks continuously without fear of accountability.
At around 3:00 PM yesterday, unidentified armed individuals opened fire on civilians, including women and children, at “Ziyarat-e Sayyed Mohammad Agha” in Injil district of Herat, resulting in the deaths of more than 30 people.
However, Abdul Mateen Qani, spokesperson for the Taliban’s Ministry of Interior, announced yesterday evening that seven people were killed and 13 others were injured in the shooting.
