Agence France-Presse has reported that the European Union plans to invite a Taliban delegation to Brussels in the next weeks to discuss the deportation of Afghan asylum seekers.
According to sources who spoke to AFP, the visit was initially scheduled for late March but has now been postponed to the next weeks.
A diplomatic source told AFP, “The plan is to invite them before the summer.” The source also added that the Taliban delegation will be a “technical” team.
Sources further said that European officials are reviewing information about flights and the capacity of Kabul airport. At the same time, they are expected to discuss with the Taliban the situation of individuals who may be returned.
Earlier, the European Commissioner for Migration confirmed that the EU has held talks with the Taliban authorities regarding the return of Afghan asylum seekers.
