Human Rights Watch asked the International Criminal Court (The Hague) to investigate the Taliban’s gender persecution and severe human rights violations in Afghanistan.
This organization wrote in its new report today (Friday, 8th of September) that the gender crimes of the Taliban in Afghanistan should be investigated by the International Criminal Court (The Hague) as an example of a crime against humanity.
Liz Evenson, the international justice director at Human Rights Watch, said: “The International Criminal Court’s investigation in Afghanistan can provide a way to account of crimes against humanity and gender-based persecution.”
Human Rights Watch emphasized that governments must ensure that the court has the necessary resources and cooperation to enable its prosecutors to investigate this crime and other serious human rights violations.
Evenson added: “The Taliban’s cruel and methodical denial of the basic rights of women and girls to remove them from public life received global attention,” The coordinated support by concerned governments is needed to bring the Taliban leaders responsible to justice.”
This report is published while in the last two years, the Taliban issued the most decrees to limit the areas of life for women.
At the same time, protesting against these restrictions, Afghan women launched hunger strikes and sit-ins in Germany, Norway and other countries of the world.
