Rita French, the representative of the United Kingdom in the United Nations Human Rights Council, says that the continuation of extensive restrictions on women in Afghanistan is tragic.
Britain’s representative in the United Nations Human Rights Council said at the council’s meeting in Geneva on Monday: “We witness the continuation of oppression and violence against Afghan women and girls by the Taliban
with horror and sadness.
In this meeting, the British ambassador for human rights, by listing the cases of human rights violations, especially the violation of women’s rights in Afghanistan in the field of education, work and basic freedoms of women, said that the impact of these restrictions on the welfare and livelihood of women is unimaginable.
Rita French asked the Taliban to respond to the needs of the Afghan people and listen to their request for “work, bread and justice”.
“Work, bread and justice” was the slogan of Afghan women protestors who repeated in their demonstrations in Kabul and other cities in response to the increasing restrictions imposed by the Taliban on women.
Meanwhile, the representatives of the United States and Turkey also condemned the discrimination and restrictions imposed by the Taliban on Afghan women in their speeches at the 54th meeting of the United Nations Human Rights Council, which is ongoing in Geneva.
