On the second day of the three-day meeting of the UN Human Rights Council, the high commissioner of this organization said that human rights in Afghanistan are in a state of collapse and have severely affected the lives of millions of women, men, girls and boys.
Volker Turk, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, said during his speech at the 54th meeting of this council in Geneva on Tuesday,(12th of September) that there is a systematic attack on the rights and freedoms of Afghan women and girls, and they are affected in most aspects of their general and everyday lifes.
He added: “The level of oppression of Afghan women and girls is extremely cruel. “Afghanistan is the only country in the world where women and girls are denied access to secondary and higher education.”
According to Turk, in the last two years in Afghanistan, laws that partially protect human rights purposefully removed.
Emphasizing that the international community cannot forget the people of Afghanistan, he asked the countries that have influence over the Taliban to force them to change this approach.
This is despite the fact that a day before, Human Rights Watch said in a statement that the Taliban’s abuse of people, especially women and girls in Afghanistan, is a crime against humanity and gender harassment
