The Islamic Council of Iran approved a new bill based on which stricter punishment is considered for those who do not observe the hijab.
This bill under the name of “Supporting the Culture of Hijab and Chastity” was approved by the Islamic Council of Iran on a trial basis for three years with 152 votes in favor, 34 votes against, and seven abstentions.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights published a statement today (Friday, the 22nd of September) that the new bill approved by the parliament is stricter than the previous one and still humiliating.
This organization emphasized that women and girls should not be treated as second-class citizens and that Iranian authorities should respect the rights of all Iranian people.
According to this bill, the punishments include flogging, 360 million Rials fine, and up to ten years of imprisonment for those who are considered violators.
But in the previous bill, two months in prison and a fine of 500,000 Rials were set for the violators of the hijab law.
