At least two universities in Tehran imposed new restrictions on the clothing of male and female students.
Student activists in Iran say that the Islamic Republic is trying to implement restrictions in other universities too.
Based on published reports, Tehran and Amir Kabir University in Iran prevented female students from wearing patterned coats, high-heeled shoes, inappropriate chador, and artificial nails.
Also, male students are prevented from having long hair, beards and mustaches, as well as unusual ornaments and belts.
It is said that officers posted at the gates of these universities to investigate these cases.
At the same time, the unions of more than a dozen Iranian universities said in a joint statement that their student movement entered a new stage of activism and resistance and will condemn any repressive measures.
