The head of the United Nations Deputy Delegation in Afghanistan said in the briefing meeting of the Security Council of this organization that Afghan girls should be able to live in a peaceful society.
She asked the Islamic countries to mediate for the Taliban’s interaction with the world and to hold this group accountable.
Roza Atunbayeva, head of the United Nations Assistance Mission (UNAMA), who also serves as the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Afghanistan, presented a detailed report on the human rights situation in Afghanistan to the United Nations Security Council on Tuesday, the 26th of September.
The representative of the UN Secretary-General for Afghanistan emphasized that talking to the Taliban does not mean recognizing this group, but we are trying to change the policy of the Taliban, especially regarding women.
Atunbayeva added that the international legitimacy of the Taliban depends on the legitimacy of this group inside Afghanistan.
She stated that the policies of the Taliban, which cause deprivation of women, are not acceptable to the international community.
According to reports, Nasir Ahmad Faiq, head of Afghanistan’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations, and Sima Bahous, head of the United Nations Women’s Department, are also scheduled to speak in this meeting.
