The representative of Albania in the United Nations said that the international community should recognize gender apartheid in Afghanistan.
He emphasized that what is happening to women and girls in Afghanistan is sexual harassment and this crime should be punished.
Ferit Hoxha, whose country hosted the Security Council meeting on (Tuesday, the 27th of September), emphasized: “It is true that gender apartheid is a strong word; But it is true and it reflects the terrible reality.”
This Albanian official only criticized the statements that condemn the policies of the Taliban against women and added that the time come for practical action in this regard.
At the same time, the representatives of Iran and Pakistan also implicitly mentioned the violation of women’s rights in Afghanistan in their speeches at the Security Council meeting.
They asked the international community to oblige the Taliban to respect human rights, especially the rights of Afghan women.
