Mary Lawler, the UN special rapporteur on human rights defenders, asked for the immediate release of Julia Parsi and Neda Parwani, women’s rights activists in Afghanistan.
Mary Lawler, the United Nations special rapporteur on human rights defenders, wrote on the X social network on Thursday(the 28th of September: “The arrest of Julia Parsi and her son by the Taliban in Afghanistan and the arrest of Neda Parwani, her colleague, while their whereabouts are unknown. No, it’s sad.”
She asked for the unconditional release of these two women’s rights activists.
Julia Parsi, a member of the leadership of the Spontaneous Women’s Protest Movement of Afghanistan, and her son were arrested by the Taliban the day before from her home in the Fethullah Fort area, and Neda Parwani, a member of this movement, with her husband and child ten days before from her home in the Khairkhane area of Kabul city.
So far, there is no information about the destiny and whereabouts of these protesting women, and the Taliban did not comment on this matter either.
