Last day, nearly a hundred organizations and institutions, in a joint open letter, demanded the release of Matiullah Wisa, the head of Rah Qalam Association and activist for children’s education rights.
In this open letter addressed to the United Nations, human rights institutions, country leaders and a number of human rights activists, it is stated that Matiullah Wisa was peacefully working and campaigning for children’s access to education, and his arrest is not justified.
These organizations have demanded the unconditional release of Matiullah Wisa.
Visa was arrested by the Taliban on Monday evening (7 Hamal) while leaving the mosque.
He was widely active in the field of access to the right to education, especially for girls in Afghanistan, and Rah Qalam, an organization under his leadership, created mobile schools for children in remote areas and encouraged them to study.
After Visa’s arrest, the Taliban spokesman said that he was arrested by the Taliban’s intelligence department because of “arbitrary activities and encouraging people to engage in anti-government activities.”
This is despite the fact that before this, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Human Rights, the UNAMA office and several human rights organizations had demanded the release of Matiullah Wisa.
