Cricket Ireland is set to host Afghanistan’s cricket team in One Day Internationals (ODIs)
in August this year. In these matches, which are scheduled to include five games,
Afghanistan’s women’s cricket team—currently operating in exile—has also been invited.
Following the Taliban’s return to power in the summer of 2021, women’s sports were
banned, and several women’s teams, such as cricket and football, have since continued
their activities in exile. At present, women in Afghanistan do not have the right to
participate in sports, and no sports clubs are officially operating in the country.
