Isabelle Rome, France’s Human Rights Ambassador, says that Afghan women are not victims, but survivors and fighters.
Ms. Rome said last night (Sunday, 22 March) in a post on X that France stands in solidarity with Afghan women and added that Afghan women must be present at every decision-making table.
The French Human Rights Ambassador also stated that her country rejects dialogue with the Taliban and likewise condemns all laws that deprive women of their fundamental rights and free access to public space, and that lead to their systematic exclusion.
Ms. Rome further said that France, along with five other countries, initiated a request for the issuance of arrest warrants against Taliban leaders by the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, and has also supported the establishment of an investigative mechanism to document crimes committed by the Taliban.
This comes as women in Afghanistan, over the past more than four years, have lost many of their fundamental rights such as the right to education, freedom of movement, freedom of expression, and the right to choose, and have been removed from public life in an unprecedented manner
