The Taliban’s Supreme Court, in separate statements, announced that one woman and two men were flogged in two provinces on charges of “illicit relations” and selling alcoholic beverages.
The institution said today (Tuesday, March 24) in a statement that a woman and a man were flogged in Kabul on charges of having illicit relations.
The statement said that each of them had been sentenced to 39 lashes and to one year and one year and six months in prison, and that the flogging sentences were carried out on March 18 and March 19.
In another statement, the Taliban’s Supreme Court said that one person in Balkh was flogged in public on charges of selling alcoholic beverages.
The statement added that the accused had been sentenced to 39 lashes, and the sentence was carried out on March 19.
Since returning to power, the Taliban have resumed corporal punishment of accused individuals, and over the past more than four years, many citizens, including women, have been flogged in public in various provinces.
