The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) says that the start of the school year should bring hope for every child.Sanjay Wijesekera, UNICEF Regional Director for South Asia, said today (Thursday, 26 March) that girls in Afghanistan have waited too long for schools to reopen, and now it is time for school doors to be opened to them again.According to this UNICEF official, hope, dignity, and the future begin with education, and that is why girls need to be able to return to school.While the new school year has started in the colder provinces of Afghanistan, girls above grade six are still not allowed to return to school. After taking control of Afghanistan in 2021, the Taliban banned education for girls above grade six.
