The United Nations, in response to the continued closure of schools for girls above sixth grade in Afghanistan, has said that every girl, without exception, deserves safety, opportunity, and the hope that comes with education.
In a post shared this morning (Sunday, March 29) on X, the organization stated that education must not be delayed for any child.
Two days ago, the new academic year 1405 began in Afghanistan; however, girls above sixth grade are still prevented from going to school.
After taking control of Kabul in 1400, the Taliban banned education for girls above sixth grade.
Over the past nearly five years, international organizations and countries have repeatedly called for the restoration of girls’ right to education in Afghanistan.
The United Nations also added that 273 million children around the world are out of school a number that has increased for the seventh consecutive year.
According to the organization, since 2015, progress in keeping children in school worldwide has slowed down.
